The National Fire Authority has confirmed to fijivillage News that the family whose home was destroyed in an early morning fire in Lami is now staying with a neighbour.

The fire occurred at a house along Raghunath Singh Drive at about 2am today, leaving the family without a home.

Fortunately, the occupants managed to escape in time.

The family consists of a father and his four children.

The house was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at the scene.

Embers from the blaze also began affecting a nearby house, however firefighters were able to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to other homes.

Neighbours say three fire trucks responded to the incident and have commended firefighters for their efforts in bringing the blaze under control and protecting nearby properties.

The National Fire Authority says officers returned to the scene this morning to deal with remaining hotspots.

The Authority has also confirmed that investigations are continuing today and will extend into tomorrow to determine the cause of the fire.

The cause of the fire remains unknown at this stage.
