The National Disaster Management Office will be conducting a live tsunami siren test for the Suva to Lami corridor at 11am today but no evacuation is required.

NDMO says this exercise is part of government’s continued commitment towards improving its state of readiness for any tsunami event.

They say the purpose of this exercise is to also test the functionality of the sirens.

NDMO says there are 13 sirens installed along the Suva foreshore, having an acoustic range of 1.2km.

The sirens are located at Water Authority of Fiji Kinoya Sewerage Plant, FINTEL in Vatuwaqa, RFMF Officers Training School in Vatuwaqa, USP Statham Campus, USP Lower Campus, USP Laucala Campus, Veiuto Primary School, Government Training Centre in Nasese, iTaukai Trust Fund Board, Suva City Council Civic Carpark rooftop, Biosecurity Authority of Fiji at Renown Street, Government Shipping Services and Lami Town.

All tsunami sirens will be activated.
