A tourism worker from Votualevu, Nadi who has been without a job for months has won the Sargam Rups Big Bear Rangoli competition.

Shayal Lata has won a $250 Rups Big Bear voucher.

A rangoli is a traditional art form using coloured sand, grains or powder to decorate the floor and other flat surfaces.

She says she used to work as a beauty therapist at a resort in Denarau but she has been unemployed for months now.

Lata adds a lot people in her community work in the tourism or aviation sector and have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

She further says her family will not be celebrating Diwali on a grand scale this year as a lot of their family members will not be able to travel from overseas and they will also be limiting visitors to their home to reduce the risk.

Today is Hanuman Utsav which celebrates the birth of Lord Hanuman.

On this day, Hindus seek Lord Hanuman’s protection and blessings.
