For 63-year-old Nalin Singh of Martindar, Nadi, an ordinary day almost became his last. After stepping out of the shower, Singh suddenly began having cold sweats. Moments later, a sharp pain spread down his left arms.

His children, sensing something was terribly wrong, insisted he be rushed to the hospital.

‘’I am lucky my children acted quickly and if they had delayed, I wouldn’t be alive today,’’ Singh recalled.

At first, the family went to a nearby hospital in Nadi. While he was attended to, they felt more urgent and specialized treatment was needed. Together with his wife, Kusum Singh and their children, the family made a life-saving decision to transfer Nalin Singh to PSH Hospitals in Nadi.

That decision saved his life.

The moment Singh arrived at PSH Hospitals, Interventional Cardiologist, Dr Srikar Mriyala and the medical team wasted no time. Tests were conducted which confirmed a serious cardiac blockage. Within minutes, a stent was placed in his artery to restore blood flow and prevent a fatal heart failure.

‘’The doctors here didn’t waste time. They acted immediately and did everything very fast. Thanks to Dr Srikar and his team, I am alive today. If they had been late, I would not be here,’’ said Singh emotionally.

Nalin Singh gave a message to the communities, he says;

‘’My message is simple, if you have chest pain, cold sweats or pain in your arm, don’t sit at home and wait. Don’t panic and don’t worry about the money. Just come to PSH Hospitals, if you delay, you may not survive,’’

‘’I am alive,’’ he said quietly. ‘’And that’s because the right help came at the right time’’.

For Kusum Singh, it was a frightening experience that has now turned into gratitude.

‘’My husband was in a critical state. It was so painful to see him suffering. But the doctors at PSH Hospitals worked tirelessly and gave him another chance at life. We are so thankful to Dr Srikar and his entire medical team of PSH Hospitals,’’ she said.

She added that many families in Fiji are unaware of the advanced facilities available locally.

‘’People should know that Fiji now has the resources to handle emergencies like this. We don’t need to travel to India or anywhere else. Treatment is right here at home. If you act on time, lives can be saved,’’ Mrs Singh said.

Founder and Chief Executive Officer of PSH Hospitals, Parvish Kumar said, this is precisely the hospital's mission, to make specialized healthcare accessible in Fiji.

‘’Every second counts during a cardiac emergency. That is why PSH Hospitals has invested in technology and highly trained specialists, so people do not have to leave the country for urgent treatment,’’ said Kumar proudly.

Today, PSH Hospitals stands as the most experienced and advanced open heart surgery hospital in Fiji. For more information or bookings, email us at booking@psh.com.fj or call us on 892 2241 (Nadi) or 892 2266 (Suva)
