Deputy PM to meet Police soon on the update of their investigations into scams

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Communications Manoa Kamikamica says there are too many scams happening around the country, and he was also a victim of scamming on Viber.

Kamikamica is calling on the public to be careful when sending money to family members or someone they know without confirming the details of that person.

He says he will be having a meeting with the Police soon to understand where their investigations into scamming have gotten to.

The Deputy Prime Minister says the losses from the EbayShop recruitment scam has gone up to $3 million.

No one has been charged in relation to the EbayShop recruitment to date although there have been many complaints and reports by victims of the scam since August last year.

The Deputy Prime Minister adds they need to get to the bottom of it and make some arrests if they have to because they cannot condone this kind of dishonest behaviour in the country.

Kamikamica says he was a victim of a scam where someone impersonated the Minister for Rural Development and sent him a Viber message.

He says he knew it was a scam as he and the Minister for Rural Development call each other in a certain way because they are both from Tailevu.
