A primary school teacher has been charged for allegedly assaulting a Year 7 student in school.
The teacher, Vincent Anusheel Chandra appeared in the Nadi Magistrates Court last week and has been granted bail on conditions including not to interfere with the witnesses and change his address.
He will take his plea in court on the 9th of September.
The student’s mother, Renu Chandra says her son is now refusing to go to school out of fear.
Chandra says the incident occurred on Tuesday morning, when her son was asked to search for a soccer ball that had been lost by other students.
She alleges when he was unable to find the ball, the teacher allegedly beat him with a PVC pipe.
She claims her son sustained injuries to his hand, stomach and ear, and has been left emotionally disturbed and traumatised by the incident.
Chandra further alleges this was not the first time her son had been assaulted by the same teacher, but he had remained silent out of fear of bullying and further mistreatment.
The mother says the matter was reported to the Nadi Police Station.
We have been informed that the teacher has not returned to school.
Questions have been sent to the Ministry of Education.
They are yet to respond.
