Minister for Economy Aiyaz Saiyed Khaiyum and SODELPA Leader Viliame Gavoka

SODELPA Leader Viliame Gavoka says that a SODELPA Government will forgive student loan debt as many students struggle to find jobs and face loss of income from the COVID-19 pandemic however Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum says Gavoka’s quest is to get the votes of young Fijians in the upcoming general elections.

While debating the Review of the Fiji Higher Education Commission August 2016 – July 2017 Annual Report, Gavoka says they will allocate $200 million for free tertiary education.

When Gavoka was making suggestions on the specific study courses that need to be offered for free, Assistant Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Selai Adimaitoga called out that Gavoka should stop dreaming.

Meanwhile Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Saiyed Khaiyum says that we need to have higher education institutions that are responsive to the labour market needs.

He also says Gavoka is just trying to get the young voters.
