Southern Zone: Nasinu U17 secure semi-final spot after narrow win over Naitasiri 17-15

Nasinu Secondary School’s Under-17 team has booked a semi-final spot in the Southern Zone Vodafone Deans competition after defeating Naitasiri Secondary School 17-15 in the quarter-final.

While speaking to fijivillage Sports, head coach Semesa Matai says Naitasiri gave a strong performance, as reflected in the close scoreline.

Matai says a few weaknesses, such as knock-ons and defence are areas the team will need to improve before the semi-final next Saturday.

He says that they will face Marist Brothers High School next week in a match that will determine whether they qualify for the national quarter-finals.

Looking at other Under-17 results, Grammar defeated Lami High School 24-6, and Marist won by default against Sacred Heart College.

In under-16 results, Suva Grammar decimated Ratu Latianara College 64-0, Gospel High School edged Lomary Secondary School 27-18, and Nasinu Secondary School thrashed Ratu Simione College 45-0.

Under-19 results, Marist drew with AOG 17-17, despite the draw,AOG was awarded the win based on competition rules, which state that the number of converted tries determines the winner in such cases, while Naitasiri High School thrashed Lami High School 32-0.

In Under 16 Raluve Competition, Ratu Latianara College defeated Suva Grammar High School 20-7.

In Under 18 results, Lomary Secondary School crushed Assemblies of God High School 39-0, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School thrashed Ratu Latianara College 45-5, and Nasinu Secondary School beat Ratu Simione College 27-3.
