The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s side had a shaky start to their Dubai 7s campaign after securing a close win over the USA in their first pool match today.

Fiji started well with a converted try to Jeremaia Matana in the 1st minute before the USA replied with a converted try to Marcus Tupuola a minute later to level the score at 7-all.

The game went into halftime with both teams locked at 7-all.

Sevuloni Mocenacagi opened the scoring for Fiji in the second half with a converted try in the 8th minute but the USA capitalised on Fiji’s poor defence to score their second converted try through Malacchi Esdale in the 10th minute.

Captain Joseva Talacolo scored Fiji’s final try with Terio Veilawa converting it for the win.

Fiji will take on France at 9.52pm in their second match tonight before playing Great Britain at 3.50am tomorrow in their final match.

The Men’s cup quarter finals will begin at 6.58pm tomorrow, the cup semi finals will kick off at 10.04pm tomorrow and the final will be at 3.53am Monday.

Meanwhile, the Women’s Cup quarter finals will kick off at 5.30pm tomorrow, the semi finals will be at 9.20pm tomorrow and the final will be at 3.13am Monday.
