School students seen in internet shops during school hours

School students seen in internet shops during school hours

As the third school Term has just started, some school students were seen playing games in one of the internet shops in Lautoka this morning.

In a video posted on Facebook, a police officer is seen doing his duty by chasing the students from the internet shop.

The officer is also seen questioning the internet shop owner why she had allowed students to play games during school hours.

Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro had earlier said children should be monitored on their daily attendance, and parents must advise the class teacher or the school administration staff if the child is unwell and unable to attend classes.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Livai Driu says this is part of everyday operational efforts to ensure children are not loitering during and after school hours in town or any other locations.

ACP Driu says they are urging parents and guardians to talk to their children about the consequences of their actions.

He further says in this case children were not where they were supposed to be, and they have repeatedly called for combined efforts from people to share the responsibility for the safety and security of their children.

ACP Driu says when a child is seen where they shouldn't be, the public can either call the police or the school if they can identify what school they attend.

We have also sent questions to the Ministry of Education. They are yet to respond.
