The government says the rest of Fiji needs to learn from the experience Savusavu is offering to its visitors.

Savusavu gets 2% of the total visitors to Fiji but the number of nights spent there is an average of 19, which is double the national average.

In a meeting with representatives of the Savusavu Tourism Association Tourism Minister Premila Kumar says the national average length of stay is approximately 9 nights whereas visitors to Savusavu stay for 19 nights on average.

She says the highest average length of stay in Savusavu include visitors from the United Kingdom which is 33 nights, Australia 20 nights, Continental Europe 17 nights and USA 16 nights.

The Chair of the Savusavu Tourism Association, Delia Jones says Savusavu is ready to support the Fijian Government’s vision for the tourism sector.

She says Savusavu is able to cater for niche and emerging markets, such as voluntourism, yacht tourism and marine ecology, which create additional value in the sector.
