Following the flooding in many parts of the country such as the greater Suva area, Rewa Bridge, and parts of Nausori, Ba and Nadi mainly due to blocked drains, Minister for Public Works, Ro Filipe Tuisawau says he has directed the Permanent Secretary to urgently coordinate with the Fiji Roads Authority, Department of Waterways at Ministry of Agriculture and municipal councils so that urgent actions are taken to help alleviate this problem.

He says they have also had to take into account the large amount of rainfall in the last few weeks and hopes this will ease off soon.

Ro Filipe says the Government has also re-established the Drainage Board which will also look into this and budget accordingly.

Meanwhile, following many concerns raised by drivers and people living in the greater Suva area, the FRA says they have completed work on 13 roads and are now making progress on other roads along the Suva-Nausori corridor.

FRA says they are collaborating with the Suva City Council on drainage reticulation plans and are coordinating with the Department of Waterways to clear easements.

They say plans will be based on data from SCC, including identifying any illegal connections.

FRA says they will work with SCC to increase the capacity of the drainage network.
