Raw sewage overflowing from a manhole near Coronation Park in Lautoka, posing serious health risks, has been resolved.
Following questions by fijivilage News, the Water Authority of Fiji confirms the wastewater overflow was promptly addressed by its Wastewater Team last Tuesday afternoon, shortly after the complaint was received.
WAF adds upon inspection, the team found the blockage was caused by debris discharged from the nearby hospital adding, it was cleared through rodding which immediately restored normal flow.
To prevent future incidents, WAF says its Operations and Liquid Trade Waste Section will strengthen monitoring and enforcement of non-compliant customers upstream.
WAF also highlights that, under its Planned Preventative Maintenance programme for this financial year, the team will carry out CCTV inspections, jet flushing, and vacuum truck cleaning of the trunk main.
The Authority emphasizes that these proactive maintenance works aim to detect and clear any build-ups or obstructions, ensuring continued reliability of wastewater services in the area.
