Police to be dressed in civilian clothes to curb criminal activity in the Suva City

Police to be dressed in civilian clothes to curb criminal activity in the Suva City

Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew

Following concerns raised on the safety of people in the Suva City and surrounding areas especially at night, some police officers will be dressed in civilian clothes because according to Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew, when these attacks happen, it is not done in full visibility of the police.

fijivillage News has been contacted by a number of people in the past few days regarding attacks and robberies on the streets.

They say these people loitering in different parts of Suva are also getting daring and are now even attacking and robbing people in broad daylight.

There have been a number of attacks on people by youths along Waimanu Road, Stewart Street and Saint Fort Street.

These people are seen loitering around sniffing glue and there are allegations that they may also be high on drugs.

They are attacking people at random at any time of the day or night, and this is happening almost every day.

Chew says to make it worse, when these things happen, the victims do not file a complaint.

He says they are however highlighted by the media when they ask about what is happening.

The Acting Commissioner confirms they will also try to find out the blind spots.

fijivillage News encourages you to take photos of groups targeting people to rob, and details of any assaults or robberies on our streets, and send them to info@fijivillage.com

We will then follow these up with Police.
