A police officer is under investigation for allegedly assaulting a man in the middle of a street.

The incident has sparked a lot of public outrage.

A disturbing video that has been circulating on social media shows the police officer assaulting the man in broad daylight in front of bystanders.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro says the incident has been brought to the attention of the Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew who had directed that the incident be looked into.

Naisoro says the initial information gathered was that the officer and the victim are related.

It is believed that the individual driving was allegedly not supposed to be driving the vehicle however the main issue is the officer's conduct.

After the assault, the police officer got into the same vehicle with the victim and drove off.
