Fuel remains available, Government working on backup plans

The government assures all Fijians that at this stage, fuel supplies remain steady, and plans are in place should the situation change.

In a statement, the government says the Fuel Advisory Committee is working closely with key agencies such as the Fiji Commerce Commission, which oversees fair pricing, the Reserve Bank of Fiji, which manages monetary policy, and the Ministry of Finance.

They say together, they are keeping a close watch on fuel supply levels, looking at how global events may affect Fiji, and making sure the economy and everyday life are not disrupted.

It says the government is in regular contact with fuel companies and other partners to make sure everything runs smoothly and that supply continues without major disruption.

The government adds that under the Fuel and Power Emergency Act 1974, the Permanent Secretary for Public Works Paula Baleilevuka has been appointed as Fuel Controller.

This means one person is responsible for overseeing the fuel situation and making sure the right actions are taken quickly.

The government says fuel remains available, and there is no need for people to change their normal daily routine.

Looking ahead, the government says it is also preparing for possible future changes in the global situation, including developments in the Middle East, to make sure Fiji remains ready and protected.

They also thank everyone for staying calm and acting responsibly during this time, which has helped ensure fuel continues to be distributed smoothly across the country.

The government also acknowledges Fijians who are making conscious fuel-saving choices such as renewable energy options, carpooling, public transport, biking, walking, or reducing travel.
