Heavy Rain Alert cancelled for western Viti Levu, remains for eastern Viti Levu

A Heavy Rain Alert previously in force for the western half of Viti Levu and Mamanuca is cancelled, while the alert remains in force for the eastern half of Viti Levu including Navua-Suva-Nausori, Coral Coast, Tailevu, Naitasiri, Rakiraki, Tavua and Yasawa.

The Nadi Weather Office says a trough of low pressure associated with cloud, showers and rain lies over Fiji and is expected to affect the country until later tonight.

They say there will be occasional rain, heavy at times, and isolated thunderstorms, with rain gradually easing from later tonight.

The Weather Office says possible impacts include flash flooding in flood-prone, low-lying informal settlements and communities, as well as at businesses and Irish crossings.

This could lead to traffic disruptions.

They say surface flooding is also possible on streets in urban areas with poor drainage.

The Weather Office says wet roads and reduced visibility, especially during heavy downpours, could increase the risk of road accidents.
