Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho

The Fiji Police Force is calling for calm and is urging all Fijians to respect the political process following recent political developments.

Police Commissioner, Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho says they are concerned about the number of reports of stoning incidents received last night targeting the homes and businesses of Fijians of Indian descent.

Qiliho also calls on social media users to be mindful of what they post, and ensure that they do not create unnecessary panic and fear based on rumours and unsubstantiated information.

He urges Fijians to celebrate responsibly and with humility and also request political party leaders to stress the same to their supporters.

The Chief Operations Officer, ACP Abdul Khan will be revisiting political party leaders today to discuss the same issues of concern.

Qiliho says through community policing efforts, community visitations are being conducted throughout Fiji, targeting business operators, religious institutions, farming communities to provide assurance that they remain focused on ensuring a safe conducive environment for all Fijians during the post-election period.

We have asked how many stoning incident reports have been received, reports from which areas have been received and how many are under investigation. Police are yet to comment.
