The Capital City was a hive of activity today as parents and guardians turned out in numbers to get their children ready for the new school year.

This is after the government disbursed $40.4 million for the $200 a child Back-to-School Support earlier than initially promised.

While speaking to fijivillage News, Melaia Rosaucokocoko of Matacaucau Village in Tailevu, says she travelled all the way to Suva to purchase stationery for her three children.

Rosaucokocoko says her eldest child will be in Year 9 this year at Tailevu North College, her second eldest in Year 7, and her youngest in Year 5 at Namalata District School.

She emphasised the importance of parents utilizing the $200 wisely to meet their children’s school needs.

Naomi, from Legalega in Nadi says she used the $200 grant to buy school bags, shoes, and other stationery for her five children. She says the grant came just in time, as many parents are preparing for their children’s return to school.

Meanwhile, Swanika Chand of Narere was out today in 9-miles to buy essential school supplies for her two children, who attend Nasinu Sangam School.

She says her elder son will be in Year 7, while her younger son is in Year 4.

Chand says she has used the government assistance to purchase uniforms, school bags, and sandals for her sons.

She expressed her gratitude to the government for the Back-to-School Support.
