Olympic men's football: Spain beats France 5-3 in extra time to claim gold

Morocco thrashes Egypt 6-0 to win bronze

Spain has claimed gold in the Olympics men’s football competition after beating hosts France 5-3 in extra time this morning.

The game went into fulltime with both teams locked at 3-all.

France scored the first goal before Spain came back to score 3 goals before halftime to give them a 3-1 lead at the break.

The hosts came back strongly in the second half to score two more goals to lock the score, taking the match into extra time.

Spain then capitalised on France’s mistakes to score two more goals for the win.

Meanwhile, Morocco thrashed Egypt 6-nil to win bronze.

Meanwhile, the USA is currently leading the official Olympics medal tally with 32 gold, 39 silver and 39 bronze followed by China with 32 gold, 26 silver and 23 bronze, Australia is third with 18 gold, 16 silver and 14 bronze while Japan is fourth with 16 gold, 8 silver and 13 bronze.
