New Tamavua-i-Wai Bridge to open early next month

FRA successfully completes major road, bridges and crossing projects

The Fiji Roads Authority has successfully completed work on a number of bridges and crossings in the past 12 months where they have replaced numerous previously flood prone low-level crossings with new and more durable crossings.

Some of these projects include, Emuri Crossing, Nausori Crossing, Burelevu Crossing, Matokana Road, Savusavu Crossing, Nakorotari Crossing, Solovi 1 Crossing, Navaga Bridge, Wailoku Crossing, Nadi Legalega Crossing, Miha Mahajan Crossing and Balenabelo Modula Bridge.

FRA’s CEO, Jonathan Moore says their major project, the new Tamavua-i-Wai Bridge will open early next month.

Looking at some of the major road projects, the FRA has completed the four lane Kings Road from Nakasi to Rewa Bridge, Beqa Steep Hill Road, Kiuva-Kaba Peninsula Road and Dreketilailai to Lekutulevu Road project.

Moore adds the sections on Princes Road, Fletcher Road, Ratu Sukuna Road, Nabua Bypass and Nabua Commercial are nearing completion.

Moore say a number of projects are ongoing.

Moore says as far as road rehabilitation is concerned, they are now using a stone aggregate material known as AP40 and this material is being used in deep potholes, especially in wet weather.

The FRA’s total budget in the current financial year was $419.4 million, comprising $19.7 million for operating expenditure and $399.8 million for capital expenditure.
