The Nadera community has raised concerns following a third break-in at the Shri Sanatan Dharam Ramayan Temple last night.
In an interview with fijivillage News, Akeel Kumar says significant damage was caused during the break-in, with Lord Hanuman's statue partially damaged.
Kumar estimates that repairs will cost about $2,500.
He says that they have no leads on who is responsible, as the temple does not have CCTV cameras to help increase security.
Kumar also says that while the forensic team has carried out its work, no arrests were made in previous incidents.
He says previously there used to be regular police patrols in the area.
Meanwhile, the Southern Division Taskforce is assisting Valelevu Police with the investigation.
The Temple President reported that an unknown person caused damage to the wall and the office grill, with repairs estimated at $250.
He also confirmed that no items were stolen.
Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu has directed investigators to establish the truth behind conflicting reports because while the official report states that no items were stolen, a media report claims that $1,500 worth of offerings were taken.
The Commissioner strongly condemned the cowardly attacks on places of worship and urged the public not to use such incidents to incite intolerance through misinformation.
He warned that such actions would not be tolerated.
Investigation continues.
