The 43-year-old woman who allegedly assaulted her daughter has been remanded in custody and the matter has been transferred to the Suva High Court.

Maria Waqasaqa is charged with one count of act with intent to cause bodily harm and appeared before Nasinu Magistrate Sufia Hamza this afternoon.

It is alleged that on Tuesday in Nasinu, Waqasaqa hit her 16-year-old daughter with a mop stick several times on her left shoulder and also threw an empty beer bottle on her head.

Magistrate Hamza has also issued an interim restraining order and says the complainant is protected.

The Police prosecution objected to bail as it is an indictable offence while Waqasaqa waived her right to counsel

The matter will be called in the Suva High Court next Friday.
