The people of Moala are now better supported in healthcare services through a donation of medical equipment from Save Our Supplies (SOS) Australia, which includes 30 boxes of mini-surgical kits, circumcision kits, 10 portable defibrillators, hospital beds, and wheelchairs.
Moala District Council of Social Services representative Usaia Moli says the supplies will directly benefit Moala Medics, one of 54 community-based organisations under the Council.
He adds that the donation will also support the eight schools on the island, ensuring children receive essential healthcare services.
He says the initiative was made possible through the collaboration of SOS Australia and PIANGO.
Moli adds that beyond immediate health benefits, the donation empowers local medics and the wider community by building capacity and resilience.
He says it sets a precedent for future partnerships that prioritise locally-led engagement, sustainable healthcare solutions, and continued support for Moala’s isolated communities.
Moli adds the donation represents not only lifesaving supplies but also hope, empowerment, and a brighter future for the island.
FCOSS Executive Director Vani Catanasiga says that over the past few years, the organisation has actively advocated for better medical facilities, with support from the Medical Services Commission, the 2024-2025 Health Budget, and partners like the Global Green Grant and UNICEF.
She adds that through dedicated advocacy and strong networks, Moala DCOSS has successfully secured a much-needed donation of medical supplies, including essential items for the Moala Health Centre and its three nursing stations.
