Ban it now - Opposition MP

The only viable option before us now is to ban apps like Telegram that facilitate the spread of harmful content.

Opposition MP, Ketan Lal has highlighted this, saying the misuse of the app Telegram to share explicit images of young women without their consent has reached alarming levels, and it is imperative that we take strong, decisive action to protect our younger generations.

He says this is not a decision to be taken lightly, but it is one that we must consider if we are to protect our youth from the predatory behaviour that these platforms enable.

Lal says it is our solemn duty to address an issue that threatens the safety and dignity of our youth — an issue that continues to grow more pressing by the day.

He says in previous parliamentary sessions, he has consistently raised concerns about this issue, highlighting the dangers posed by such apps.

Lal says he has brought these concerns to the attention of the police and the Minister responsible, urging immediate intervention.

The Opposition MP says despite these efforts, they have yet to see meaningful action to curb this menace.

Lal says our young people deserve to grow up in a safe and supportive environment, free from the fear of having their privacy violated in such a heinous manner.

He says as leaders, it is their responsibility to ensure that the laws of our nation are equipped to protect them.

Lal adds this is not merely about banning an app; it is about safeguarding the future of our country and upholding the fundamental rights of our citizens.
