FICAC has referred the matter against its Commissioner Barbara Malimali to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for further assessment while FICAC has closed five cases regarding a FijiFirst declaration, Voreqe Bainimarama, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere.

Malimali’s matter which is referred to the DPP, is in relation to the complaint of alleged Abuse of Office against Malimali during her tenure as the Chair of the Electoral Commission.

FICAC confirms five of the cases which were referred by the Supervisor of Elections earlier this year have been closed and the Supervisor of Elections was notified of the closure on 24th July 2024.

The five cases included the FijiFirst declarations, a complaint against Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and Mohammed Saneem, complaints against President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and Charan Jeath Singh, a complaint against Bainimarama for submitting false declarations and a complaint against Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum on failing to declare overseas travel allowance.

FICAC says investigations into other matters referred by the Supervisor of Elections, are ongoing and FICAC will not be making any comments until the completion of the investigations.

FICAC reiterates that the Commission is operating as usual and all processes and procedures remain unchanged.

FICAC says it continues to handle every complaint, regardless of who the subject person is, with the scrutiny it deserves.
