Marist 7s: Nakavu eliminates star-studded Beyond Barbarians side 12-7 in Men’s round 1 of eliminations

Nakavu Rugby has caused a major upset at the 49th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s Tournament after defeating a star-studded Beyond Barbarians 12-7 in round 1 of elimination matches this morning.

Beyond Barbarians had the services of Fiji 7s legend Jerry Tuwai and a few of the current Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s extended squad members.

Nakavu defied all odds to claim the win and advance to the second round of eliminations.

In other round 1 elimination matches this morning, Dominion Brothers defeated Vanuavou Stingray Brothers 14-7, Wardens Gold edged Lami Cavaliers 14-12, Bula Ballers Tako Lavo thumped Bureta 26-7, Police Blue defeated Nawaka 19-0, Vacalea Young Boys thrashed Wardens Green 31-7, SR Ubuntu defeated Flying Tigers 26-12, FSC Grassroots Fiji edged Black Herons 19-17, BLK Lavidi thumped Raviravi 29-0, Nakavika defeated Viwa Rugby 19-15, DXC Army Green defeated Waimanu 21-12, Navy beat Colo-i-Suva 22-0, TEMC Warriors defeated DXC Army Red 26-10, and Tabadamu edged Brothers 14-12.

Meanwhile, in other matches played already this morning, in the Men’s U18 grade, Navakawau Rugby defeated Bilolevu Wainimala 21-0 and Marist won by default over ANCF Nakelo.

In the Women’s U18 grade, Striders edged St John’s Lomary 10-7, and MGM defeated Marist 7-5.

The second round of the Men’s eliminations are now underway.
