Man being questioned for allegedly spreading false information in regards to COVID-19

A 41-year-old man from Makoi is being questioned at the CID Headquarters for allegedly spreading false information in relation to the COVID-19 situation.

Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho says the suspect allegedly posted information about confirmed COVID-19 case in the Central Division.

There is no confirmed case of COVID-19 in the Central Division.

Qiliho is advising social media users and members of the public to stop sharing unverified information that do not come from credible sources and listen to the updates issued by Government and Ministry of Health officials which is being issued in close collaboration with World Health Organization.

The Commissioner says the sharing of unverified information only creates unnecessary panic and this needs to stop.
