11-year-old Ulamila Luisa

As many children enjoyed their Boxing Day at My Suva Picnic Park this afternoon, 11-year-old Ulamila Luisa took a different approach as she followed her mother to collect sea mussels.

Luisa says they used to spend their holidays in their village in Saumakia, Naitasiri, but this year, they chose not to because of family commitments.

She says their plan today was to enjoy the view and spend time with their mother and grandmother, who came from Rakiraki.

The Saint Marcellin Primary School student says they are fortunate to have spent a day with their parents because they have less time together due to work commitments.

She says she is lucky to have followed her mother and now knows how to collect sea mussels.

Luisa believes that after today, they will be visiting the picnic spot more often.
