Liverpool and Chelsea laid their respective English Premier League struggles bare for all to see in a bitterly disappointing stalemate as they played to a 0-0 draw.

The two giants, who have been in constant pursuit of major prizes in recent seasons, are currently locked well outside the top four - and how it showed in a dismal game almost devoid of entertainment and quality.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says they had good spells but could not keep it up.

He says in the end, he is okay with the draw because they have to accept the little steps they are taking and build on it.

Liverpool are now nine points off the Champions League places and it is clear they need to find that missing spark - and quickly - if they are to get anywhere near the top four.

Meanwhile, Chelsea's new manager Graham Potter had a tough start at Stamford Bridge, with poor results coming as the club continue to embark on a remarkable transfer spree.

He says the performance was good and he was happy with the team.

In other results of the EPL Bournemouth drew 1-all against Nottingham Forest, Leicester played to a 2-all draw with Brighton, Aon Villa beat Southampton 1-0, West Ham beat Everton 2-0 and Crystal Palace drew with Newcastle 0-0
