After the recent heavy rain being experienced over the weekend, two evacuation centres have been opened to assist affected families by the Fiji National Disaster Risk Management Office.

The Commissioner Central Division Team is on the ground conducting preliminary damage assessments following flash flooding reported since yesterday afternoon.

They say flooding has impacted several areas, including Davuilevu (Mataika Road and Naqiliso Settlement), Waidamudamu (approximately 30 houses), Vunimono Government Quarters, and parts of Narere (River Road).

The NDRMO says in Nausori Town, urban flooding has been experienced due to poor drainage, particularly around the Shop N Save supermarket, the market area, and the Catholic Church.

They say road access has also been affected, with low-level crossings at Waisa and Waidradra in Upper Naitasiri currently flooded.

The NDRMO is urging the public to remain vigilant, avoid flooded areas, and continue to follow advisories issued by authorities.
