The 28-year-old Police Officer charged with one count of murder of a man in Suva City

The lawyer for the 28-year-old Police Officer charged with one count of murder of a man in Suva City earlier this year, has disputed the cause and nature of the post-mortem results of the deceased.

It is alleged that Fifita Tawake Toma on the 13th of January this year, assaulted Peter Lanyon, who was intoxicated.

It is also alleged that Toma threw a punch on Lanyon whereby, he fell on the ground, was admitted to hospital for 4 days, and later died due to a severe brain haemorrhage according to the post-mortem results.

Toma’s lawyer Joji Cakau says he agrees with the identity of the victim however, he disputes the cause and nature of the death that Toma‘s punch had caused the death of Lanyon.

The DPP lawyer told the court that they will be producing 7 witnesses.

Toma will reappear in court on the 28th of October for mention.

The trial will be held from 25th to 29th November.
