Cape Town 7s: Fijiana 7s falls to second defeat after 22-5 loss to GB

The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s side suffered their second defeat at the HSBC Cape Town 7s after going down 22-5 to Great Britain in their second pool match tonight.

The loss has seen the Fijiana kicked out of the Cup competition after suffering a 31-0 loss to the USA in the first match.

Great Britain started the game well with an unconverted try to Raneeqa Bonner in the 2nd minute before Fiji levelled the score at 5-all with an unconverted try to Lavena Cavuru in the 4th minute.

GB scored another unconverted try at the stroke of halftime through Grace Crompton to give them a 10-5 lead at the break.

Fiji was denied any more points in the second half as GB held their ground in defence.

GB scored two more tries through Emma Uren and Crompton in the 8th and 14th minutes with a conversion from Eloise Hayward to give them the win.

GB is yet to play the USA to determine the pool winner of Pool D.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Airways Fiji Men’s 7s side will take on Uruguay at 12.38am tomorrow before playing Great Britain in their second pool match at 4.19am tomorrow.

In other matches that have been played tonight, in the women’s division, Ireland defeated Spain 34-5, Japan edged China 14-7, and Canada thrashed Brazil 43-17.

In the Men’s division, France Walloped the USA 50-12, Kenya edged Australia 19-12, Great Britain defeated Uruguay 33-15, and South Africa defeated Ireland 36-7.
