Khalsa College causes major upset in U17 Super Deans playoffs with 28-27 win over QVS

Shiri Guru Nanak Khalsa College has caused the major upset of the 2025 Vodafone Super Deans Under 17 playoffs after bundling favourites Queen Victoria School out of the competition with a 28-27 win this afternoon.

Khalsa College came out firing in the first half and held a 14-10 lead at the break.

It was an intense second half as both teams fought tooth and nail with Khalsa College winning the battle in the end.

Team manager Ana Maria Raiyaki says this is a milestone achievement and they came into this match determined as they never saw their opponent as a higher team.

Raiyaki credited the win to the Lord Almighty and also to the sacrifices that the team made coming into this game.

In other matches played so far, Lelean Memorial School beat St.Bedes College 24-6 and Marist Brothers High School defeated Immaculate Conception College 29-17 in the U15 grade, Holy Cross College thrashed Sila Central High School 43-5 and Gospel High School thumped Labasa Sangam College 27-3 in the U16 grade, and RKS beat Navatu Secondary School 34-24 in the U19 grade.

In the Weet-bix Raluve quarterfinals, Dreketi Central College beat St. Vincents College 14-12, Adi Cakobau School edged St. Theresa of Lisicux College 12-7, Sigatoka Methodist College thumped Lomaivuna High School 43-12 and Ratu Latianara College thrashed Navatu Secondary School 31-5 in the U16 grade.

In the U18 grade, Natabua High beat ACS 12-5, Muaniweni College drew 12-all with Shri Gurunanak College but the win was given to Muaniweni College as they scored the first try, Jasper Williams High School defeated Nasinu Secondary School 40- 20 and MGM High beat Bucalevu Secondary School 23-10.
