KPMG Fiji strengthens commitment to women in tech with second 'IT’s Her Future' programme

KPMG Fiji is continuing its support for women in technology with the second edition of its ‘IT’s Her Future’ insights programme, scheduled for this Thursday and Friday, aimed at introducing young women to tech career pathways and addressing the sector’s gender gap.

The initiative follows the success of the inaugural two-day event held in Suva in September 2024, which was attended by final-year university female students.

Managing Partner at KPMG Fiji, Lisa Apted says that Fiji has many young, tech-savvy women, and this talent pool provides an excellent opportunity for businesses like KPMG to tap into a vital part of the skilled workforce.

She says they aim to support Women in Technology and create job opportunities that match their potential.

She also emphasised the importance of visibility and mentorship, saying that when young people see relatable role models doing work that excites them, it helps build a strong talent pipeline for the future.

KPMG continues to lead in the AI space, with Fiji-based staff playing a key role in developing AI tools for internal use and client solutions.

Apted says that women make up just one quarter of individuals in technical roles, and only 34 percent of all STEM workers are women.

She says the purpose of ‘IT’s Her Future’ is to help tackle gender diversity within KPMG, its clients, and the wider community.

She adds that students will have access to the knowledge and experience of a significant group of KPMG technology professionals.

Apted says 15 women will be attending the programme this year, compared to 13 participants last year, of whom four have already joined KPMG as graduates in 2025.

She says they are hopeful that some from this cohort will also join them in 2026.

The programme will include sessions on: understanding the roles and work done in technology across KPMG, understanding KPMG’s technology approach, helping women in technology find their own purpose, debating the merits of different technologies, and practising interview skills.

At the end of the programme, students will have the opportunity to interview for graduate roles within KPMG Fiji, either with the Connected Technology Group or the Enterprise Technology teams based in Suva.
