K9 Units were deployed within the Suva lockdown areas last night to assist with the monitoring of unnecessary movement as Police received information about movement of people within the residential and semi-urban areas.

Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho says despite repeated warnings about the nationwide curfew that comes into force every night from 8pm to 5am, there is still reports coming in of people moving around using side roads to get around.

Qiliho says the K9 Units will be covering most of the well known shortcuts and side roads and will arrest anyone found breaching the curfew hours.

He adds the earlier restriction of movement enforced by officers around the Division should not be interpreted as a 24-hour-curfew, as the only curfew in place is the 8pm to 5am curfew.
