Former CEO of the Sugar Cane Growers Council, Jagannath Sami is the new General Secretary of the National Federation Party.
While making the announcement today, NFP Leader Professor Biman Prasad said that Sami replaces Bala Dass who has resigned to concentrate fully on his role as the General Secretary of the Fiji Cane Growers Association.
Professor Prasad says the AGM authorised the NFP management board to appoint a full time General Secretary so that the person can play an integral role in the preparation and the implementation of strategies and ensuring compliance of electoral laws in the lead up to the 2018 general elections.
Sami was removed as CEO of the Sugar Cane Growers Council after the December 2006 coup.
He was the founder President of the NFP Youth Movement in 1984 as well as the General Secretary of Fiji Sugar Cane Growers Association two years after its formation in 1992.
Sami says he is confident NFP will form the next government after the 2018 election and he wants to be part of that history.
