The current board members of the Fiji Rugby Union have been working really hard behind the scenes to get us to where we are and to say they are not fit to be part of the board, is a big statement to make.

This has been stated by FRU's Acting CEO Sale Sorovaki in his reply to the statement by Suva Rugby Union Secretary, Nemani Tuifagalele about the current 4 FRU board members not being fit to be part of the board.

Sorovaki says these board members are the engine behind the achievements of the Fiji Rugby Union like the inclusion of the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua into the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific Competition and also when the Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team won the RWC 7s.

He says these achievements were from the hard work behind the scene by the current board members and the members of the 24 provincial unions.

He adds sometimes these board members’ hard work on our elite teams is not recognized by the people and to come up and say outright that they are not fit to be on the FRU board, is totally wrong.

Earlier, SRU secretary Tuifagalele made a comment about the motion that they will be tabling at the FRU Annual General Meeting on the 29th of this month saying the current board members do not fit into what the FRU wants and looking at the other anomalies that have happened within the operations of the FRU has given them concerns as to the direction that the Union is moving towards.

Tuifagalele says the current board members’ inability to fund the affairs of the FRU properly is behind its decision to file the motion and they want them removed apart from the Prime Minister’s nominee.

The present FRU board members include Daniel Whippy, Trevor Nainoca, Muni Ratna and Biu Colati while Simione Valenitabua is Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s nominee to FRU.
