Akbar says she hopes next year or so they will be able to launch their own sporting events in schools.

Education Minister Rosy Akbar says it is high time the sport of boxing is introduced in schools.

While speaking during the South Pacific Boxing Promotions event in Nadi yesterday, Akbar says this is not only for the love of the sport as boxing cuts across all spheres of life such as self defence, health and confidence building.

Akbar says she hopes next year or so they will be able to launch their own sporting events in schools.

She adds that boxing is a dignified and honorable sport with its own set of rules and encouraged people not to use boxing as violence against others.

Akbar says there is a lot of scope for boxing in Fiji.
