Informal waste picking helps single mother makes ends meet

30-year-old Losana Naivala.

30-year-old Losana Naivala works hard to support her children and parents and a great help to her is the money generated from being an informal waste picker.

Naivala says life has not been easy especially with the recent increase in the price of food items.

She says there have been times when money generated from selling sasa brooms is not enough and whatever income is generated from informal waste picking assists in some way or form to help put food on the table.

The single mother adds that living with her parents and two children, she is grateful to be given the opportunity to join 13 other women to be part of a Wellness and Literacy Program supported by the Fiji Women's Crisis Centre and the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

Naivala says she hopes to learn as much as possible to be able to better support her family.
