A community leader says the rising cost of living, the growth of informal settlements, support for farmers and opportunities for young people remain some of the biggest issues facing many Fijian families.
Manasa Duvaga, who lives in the Bryce Street community in Raiwaqa and is originally from Dakuinuku Village in Tailevu, says many families continue to struggle with the rising cost of food, transport and housing.
He says small and medium-sized businesses remain the backbone of Fiji's economy and should continue to receive support.
Duvaga also believes more attention needs to be given to informal settlements, saying many social issues, including drug-related problems, are affecting these communities.
He says transport subsidies and social welfare assistance continue to play an important role in helping families facing financial hardship.
Duvaga is also calling for greater support for agriculture, saying farmers and industries such as dairy need more assistance to improve production and create employment.
He says young people need more opportunities through sports, agriculture and small business programmes, to help keep them engaged and reduce the risk of becoming involved in drugs and crime.

Duvaga also raised concerns about the lack of village by-laws, that stronger community rules could help improve discipline and order.
He says many people continue to move from rural areas to towns and cities in search of work and education, but often end up living in informal settlements because affordable housing remains out of reach.
Duvaga is encouraging everyone to work together and continue praying for Fiji as the country moves forward.
