The 20 percent increase in the Ministry of Youth and Sports budget in the 2024/2025 financial year is a significant boost and underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to the development of our youth and the advancements of sports in Fiji, according to Minister for Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports were allocated $23.4 million in the recently announced budget which was an increase of $4.1 million from the 2023/2024 budget.

While responding to the 2024/2025 National Budget address, Saukuru says the increased budget allocation is a clear testament to the Government’s recognition of the pivotal role that the youth and sports play in our society.

He says it demonstrates a commitment to fostering an environment where our young people can thrive, develop their skills, and contribute positively to our nation’s progress.

He adds this financial support will enable the Ministry to implement a range of initiatives that are designed to empower youths, enhance their capacities and promote sports development to all levels.

Saukuru says the Ministry is dedicated to ensuring that every young person has the opportunity to realise their potential and contribute meaningfully to society.

The Minister says this involves a multifaceted approach, capacity-building programs, skills training, youth empowerment and targeted initiatives at all youth training centres.

He further says a significant third of our population consists of youths aged between 15-35 years and it is evident that investing in the future is paramount to the overall growth and development of our nation.

Saukuru says this budget is preparing our youths to meet the challenges of the future.

He says through various programs the Ministry is aiming to equip young people with the knowledge, skills and competency that are necessary for personal and professional success.

Saukuru adds these programs will focus on leadership, development, empowerment, entrepreneurship and community engagements providing youths with the tools they need to become proactive and responsible citizens.
