A 51-year-old hotel worker from Sigatoka has been charged with obtaining financial advantage and will appear in the Sigatoka Magistrates Court today.

Police say the person allegedly dishonestly obtained $100 through a mobile money platform.

They say investigations reveals that on the 21st of August last year, the victim had accepted a friend request on Facebook from someone named Victoria Nice.

They further say the victim later received messages stating that an investment of $100 would return a profit of $3,500.

They add that convinced by the offer, the victim sent the money to a provided mobile account, which was later traced to the person, who withdrew the funds in Sigatoka.

The matter was reported to the Navua Police Station.

The person remains in custody.
