Close to 800 staff of the Hot Bread Kitchen shared over $160,000 in bonuses as the company decided to boost the morale of all workers by giving them a little bit more than their usual for Christmas and New Year.

Managing Director John Samisoni says 2020 has no doubt been a tough year for everyone, but the company was grateful for the perseverance of its staff and deemed it fitting to give them something to enjoy for the festive season.

He says it was a way the company could show their appreciation to the resilience of the staff despite the challenges of COVID-19 and even Tropical Cyclone Yasa.

Samisoni says earlier this year they had decided against laying off any staff, instead choosing to opt for reduced hours and voluntary leave without pay.
