History favours RKS in Deans trophy final

History favours RKS in Deans trophy final

As anticipation builds for the Vodafone Super Deans final this Saturday, history firmly places Ratu Kadavulevu School as the favourites when they clash with Nasinu Secondary School in the Under-18 Deans Trophy match.

The Lodoni-based school has a proud legacy, having lifted the prestigious trophy 22 times and sharing the title on five occasions.

According to the RKS Old Scholars Association, the school first claimed the trophy in 1961 and famously held onto it for six consecutive years from 1980 to 1985 — the longest title defence in the competition’s history.

In 2015, RKS stunned favorites Marist Brothers High School to reclaim the title, and in 2017, they made history by becoming the first school to win all six grades in the Deans Competition.

This Saturday, they face a determined Nasinu Secondary School in what promises to be a thrilling Under-18 final.

Looking at the other Deans finals this Saturday, QVS will play Grammar in the U14 grade, MGM High will face Grammar in the U15 grade, Grammar will play Gospel High School in the U16 final, Lelean will meet RKS in the U17 grade, and Tailevu North College will play Nasinu Secondary in the U19 final.

In the Weet-Bix Raluve finals, Sigatoka Methodist College will take on Ratu Latianara College in the U16 grade and Jasper Williams High School will meet Natabua High School in the U18 grade.

The finals will be held at the HFC Bank Stadium this Saturday.
