Heavy rain warning in force for parts of Fiji while a heavy rain alert is in place for the rest of Fiji

A heavy rain warning is in force for the western half of Viti Levu which includes Sigatoka to Rakiraki, Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Yasawa and Mamanuca Group, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, and the Southern Lau Group.

The Nadi Weather Office says a heavy rain alert remains in force for the rest of Fiji.

This is due to an active convergence zone with associated rain and showers which remains slow moving over Fiji.

The Weather Office says a trough of low pressure also approaches the country from the west and is expected to affect Fiji from later today.

People can expect rain, heavy at times and can also expect thunderstorms.

Localized heavy rainfall can lead to flash flooding of low lying areas.
