A heavy rain alert is now in place for Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Yasawa, Northern Lau Group and nearby smaller islands
The Weather Office says a trough of low pressure approaches from the north-east.
They also say the associated cloud and rain is expected to affect the country till Saturday.
Some localised businesses likely to be affected, flash flooding of low lying areas, localised flooding of Irish Crossing and informal settlements with some disruption to traffic flow and poor visibility.
