Heavy Rain Warning in place for most of Fiji

A Heavy Rain Warning remains in force for the interior and coastal areas of southeastern parts of Viti Levu from Momi, Sigatoka, Rakiraki, Navua, Suva, Beqa, Vatulele, Kadavu, Yasawa, interior and Southern parts of Vanua Levu, Southern Bua, Cakaudrove, Taveuni, Cikobia, Qelelevu, Lau and Lomaiviti Groups

The Nadi Weather Office says a trough of low pressure with associated rain and thunderstorms will affect most parts of the Fiji group until later today.

Meanwhile, a south to southeast wind flow is expected to prevail over the country from tomorrow.

They say there will be occasional rain and isolated thunderstorms with heavy falls over the Fiji Group.

The Weather Office says possible impacts could include flash flooding of some low-lying informal settlements/communities, businesses and Irish crossings leading to disruption to traffic flow.

They say surface flooding expected on streets particularly in urban areas with poor drainage system isolated disruptions to power outages and essential services may occur in severely affected areas, significant damage to houses of unshielded and very light structures in exposed communities, isolated loss of communication and electricity supply due to damaged power lines, some plants/crops tilted or damaged and twigs of small trees which may be broken and blocking/affecting transport routes, risk of isolated coastal flooding is likely during high tide, particularly in low-lying areas along the shore.
