Ex-scholars from Suva Grammar School’s vibrant 1960s cohort gathered today for a heartfelt celebration in honor of the school’s Sapphire Anniversary Celebrations.
The event, a Champagne Afternoon Tea held at the British Legion in Domain, Suva, brought together old friends and former classmates for a memorable afternoon of reminiscing and reconnecting.
Organiser Sylvia Mitchell, a proud ex-scholar herself, shared with fijivillage News that it was refreshing and nice to see those who attended the school in the 60s and 70s come together and reminisce about their time as students.
She says this is especially meaningful because a lot from the decade have moved overseas, and many have passed on.
She says Grammar teaches its students resilience — that no matter where they are, the Grammar family will always be there for each other.
She says she is thankful to have had her father’s help in contacting those overseas, as he was also a student from the same decade.
She adds 25 tickets were sold, while more were purchased at the door.
Meanwhile, a week of celebrations is planned with different decades, ending with the 65th Anniversary Grand Ball at the Vodafone Arena on Saturday.
In commemoration of Suva Grammar’s Sapphire Anniversary, Luisa Taqanika reflects on her experiences as a student in the 1960s, emphasizing that discipline was a fundamental lesson she acquired, an attribute she considers to be diminishing in today's schools.
