Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum has today confirmed that the government is undertaking a review of the National Minimum Wage.

Sayed-Khaiyum says the last review was done in 2018 and it was supposed to be done every two years.

He says COVID-19 came along and a review could not be done earlier.

The Acting Prime Minister says it is an appropriate time to review the wages and salaries due to inflation and costs being passed down to the people.

He says they will have wage review public consultations soon, and expect to have the review completed before the mini budget is announced.

Sayed-Khaiyum says the mini-budget will look at various other measures that the government can do within it’s control.
